2001 GS-R: Engine rebuild, other refreshments

I stopped by an Acura dealer, and was able to order some bottom end parts. But almost no main bearings in stock, but I did order rod bearings so we'll see if they fit. I also ordered today some King race main and rod bearings (coated) and maybe I'll just go with those. As well as ARP main studs. This engine is gonna get the love.

You don't want to use ARP studs now that the machine work has been done. The ARP fasteners have a higher clamping load and will distort the bore so they need to be installed prior to machine work so the mains can be align bored. When you do that the OEM bearing chart is null and void to use because the main bores have been resized.

the pros and cons of OEM vs King are negligible. I have no quarrels w/ an OEM main and king rod bearing combo either. Kings usually sellout quickly over ACL. Waiting on OEM bearings is truly the only variable, "is it available?" So, I hope you do get ahold of those OEM mains you're looking for.

Thank you sir! I agree, it should be fine either way. It will come down to what I have in a few weeks when we're ready to start putting together the bottom end. Not gonna wait much longer than I have to, excited to start putting the engine together!

Not too much progress lately. The guy that was helping me has flaked and doesn't respond anymore (LA people).

Right now where I'm at: We measured the crank bearings and they seem like a good fit (slightly oversized). The rod bearings measured a little on the tight end, so I got a few more sets that should be bigger, but haven't measured them yet.

The block needs to be cleaned I believe, the machine work is completed. I'd like to get it sandblasted or cleaned up properly, but not sure if that's a good idea considering the machine work is already done.

So if anyone is in the Socal area and wants to help out with the assembly let me know. Maybe we could work out an agreement. Otherwise sooner or later I'll just get the above details done as good as I can and just start assembling myself.

bullocks.....sucks he's ghosted you. Unless you feel like finding a dry ice blasting service forget about cleaning that block with anything else but elbow grease, chems and water. ANY blasting at this point might be bad news. If it's not washed properly it will show up K.O.E.O.
