100% agree as well. I gave up on trying to locate an OEM ECU for my 98 during the rebuild. I agree. I know the '97 ECU's are valuable, but didn't know the '98s were. If someone has a 98-01 ITR, can't they just use a 98-01 ECU?

I highly recommend doing a lot of research before purchasing an ecu. (FFSquad, try to reach out to Katman, etc.)
Personally, through considerable expense, I’ve managed to acquire a small collection of Honda ecus with various failures to understand what I was buying/needed. Please learn from my mistakes. Research what you need.
California Air Resource Board (CARB) and the ~13 states that follow CA standards (for now) don’t allow aftermarket ecus, regardless of actual vehicle emissions. There may be other similar models that will still pass testing.
It’s hard to beat Honda engineering, so when selecting an aftermarket ecu plan to have it dyno tuned as at least a starting point.
Emissions equipment had changes between 97,98,00-01 crossing years can lead to a check engine light.
00-01 have an immobilizer, there are also workarounds for this. (FFSquad/Jhpusa/Katman)
Few swap harnesses support the OBD2 diag. port used for emissions testing and increasing for data acquisition. So be careful with obd2a/obd2b conversions. (Rywire did not last I checked.)
3 years ago I paid $300 for a 98 ecu, last year I paid $500 for an 01 ecu. Very recently I paid $2500+ shipping for a 97 lip and was very pleased with the purchase, YMMV.
