Just curious, how do they know if it's the correct model ecu? I imagine it'd run fine with the 98 spec ecu. The emissions/smog people can tell?

In CA smog check is run through the OBD 2 diag port.
Late model ecus report a lot of information.
Since vehicle is coming from out of state it will also have to go through additional inspections which could include visual identification of the ecu.
Any visible adapter harnesses or incorrect part numbers have caused vehicles to fail some of these inspections.
Honestly they may not catch it but if they do I’d be pretty hosed, so I’d just rather have everything in order.

Just wanted to see if you still had your 37820-p73-a03 ecu. I am pretty desperate for one right now. I live in CA and need to BAR a vehicle. If you can help me out at all, please let me know. Thanks so much.

When you do acquire a OBD2b ECU how are you going to bypass the immobilizer? just curious. were you going to get the immobilizer removed or reprogram the whole ignition system?
