ebay find

Post by dmxbmx » Wed Sep 13, 2017 12:32 pm

just found this rolling shell on ebay. wonder how hard it would be to bring this in the USA as a parts car and use it strictly for track purposes.

$9k Is high for a rolling shell, even if JDM. The car is also located in Canada, so import and shipping costs will be high. If I was going to go through the process of importing a car, I would do a fully-running car.

defiantly pricey but with the values only going up it may be a good investment. I remember back in 2009 when I lived in Japan I bought my 97 spec R for a whopping 5k. you will never see those prices again. hated leaving that car behind but at the time I couldn't bring it back. only a few more years and I can finally get the red spec R I've always wanted

Seriously, 9k for a shell? And in USD.... I've seen clean, running dc2s go for 12-13k CDN.

As with any investment, there is risks and rewards, ie speculation. Without a racing pedigree, I don't see JDM ITR's being investments due to sheer production numbers. That said, a properly registered (DOT) JDM car can carry a premium.

Oddly enough I'm waiting to import one as well once they're completely legal. Since my current car has all the JDM parts I'll be swapping over anything that's better looking...doors, trunk, bumpers, 5 lug...etc, then just sell off the USDM shell. Although I'm hoping at this point they don't cost too much. Seeing the JDM SIR EG's go for 10-12k I can onlyl imagine ITR's will be slightly more. Hopefully JDM variants won't be as sought after. If they do happen to be too steep I'll probably just opt out of buying these cars altogether.

their are companies that will let you buy the car now and store it in Japan till it's legal. the prices are pretty low right now.....i check goo-net.com all the time to check prices. you can pick up a decent one for about 6 to 10k usd. I'm going to wait till about 18 months out and purchase mine so the price will still be reasonable.

There are often RHD ITR's for sale in Vancouver BC. Here is one example. CL Van is a good place to keep an eye on the market.

I have a near stock 94 Toyota Supra TT hard top RHD I will likely store in Canada until legal in early 2019.
