I just bought a 96 "B16" Cylinder head. I am pretty sure its a late 96 ITR head. The spring color codes match my 98 ITR Springs. The ports have some bowl porting under the valve seats, the cams are ITR cams according to my measurements (based on service manual specs).
The two ITR heads I have have the following code:
PR3-3 (don't have it here, its out at Endyn for work) Pretty sure its 99 head.
PR3-2 9/6 6/0 1/3 0/9
Do ya'll mind walking out to your cars and looking on the exhaust side of the engine right above the #2 and #3 ports and report back what your head codes are?
Cylinder Head Casting Codes
Re: Cylinder Head Casting Codes
I meant to do this the other day and completely forgot. This is a 1997 JDM ITR so not sure if it's what you need?
9|7 blank|3 3|1 blank|8 PR3-1
The first four round codes were sorta hidden by the heart shield but i think it's right. Blanks are a bit weird. Year/month/day and batch or something?

Re: Cylinder Head Casting Codes
Here is a shot of mine. It’s also JDM, believe it is from a 98 model, which would seem to fit if made in 97.

Re: Cylinder Head Casting Codes
Thanks. Its interesting to see some PR3-1s in the field.
One of my B16 heads has a blank spot on the casting code circles as well, so I think its just something they did at the factory. Maybe it was a single week or day? Dunno.
My plain ole B16 head is a 99 /4 1/6 9/0 PR3-3.

Re: Cylinder Head Casting Codes
Hey guys i wanted to find out some more information on the cylinder head casting codes and figured i would keep this thread alive so all the info would be together.
I recently found ,after 3 years of searching, the VIN matching engine to my 01 and the cylinder head casting is from 00. My caR was produced 1-01 according to the door jamb sticker so I'm thinking the head is still the original but I am curious if anyone else here has an 01 that they can check the casting code on there cylinder head and see if it's 00 or 01. I don't know for sure but I'm thinking there may not be any heads casted in 01 because they could have potentially had enough casted in the previous years. I've never personally noticed an 01 casted pr3 head. Please any help will be appreciated.

Re: Cylinder Head Casting Codes
As pictured I have a ‘98 head but casting indicates it was actually cast in 97. In a way this makes sense given the info, we’ve probably all heard, that the process of hand porting on the heads was one of the limitations to the build process. Honda would have wanted to get as far out ahead of production as they could.
