B-series OEM Valve Cover breather barb size/replacement?
B-series OEM Valve Cover breather barb size/replacement?
Sorry for a dumb question, but I recently acquired a replacement valve cover with a broken oem barb connector that usually routes to an optional breather filter or 3/8 I.D. hose to the intake arm.
I will have to drill out the old barb and re-install a replacement. Does anyone know a good replacement barb size that will fit like the original one without having to tap a larger opening in the valve cover to install it?
Searched around the forums for any info, but only found the usual vented valve cover how-to's.
Thank you for any information!

Can you post a picture? I believe I am followed but I want to be 100%.

The replacement is a tough one. I just measured mine and it is a 10mm barb. Possibly using this fuel line adapter as a replacement by shortening the smaller nylon end? To get the hole in the valve cover undersized, carefully drill (preferably ream) out the old fitting so it is .002-.004 thou under and tap it in?

Otherwise drill an oversized hole, tap and install something like these.

Wow, thanks for your time and suggests.
Good idea with the fuel line adapter. I notice the AGS adapter description and your advice says nylon tip, the pic shows all metal or am I mistaken?
I was wondering if there was absolutely not a 3/8" to 3/8" possibly available as far as other 3/8 fittings are concerned but was only able to find NPT to barb adapters as your suggested.
TIA for any others.

Thank you for confirming.
I have not read of anyone replacing this piece. I now King Motorsports works on valve covers, both refinishing and modifying for venting. Alternatively, purchasing net-new is an option.

When I said nylon tip side, I mean the longer smaller diameter nipple side which usually gets forced into nylon fuel line. If you are doing the NPT thread, remember the threading is a tapered so carefully tap only to the depth you need.neatrip wrote: ↑Tue Mar 23, 2021 1:13 am Wow, thanks for your time and suggests.

There might be an adapter to join hose to hose, but usually they are the serrated multiple barb type. Go to www.mcmaster.com and search through their selection using the key words "hose union barb". You can also consider getting 10mm annealed thin wall tube and then having a hydraulic shop bead and shape it for you using brake flaring tools.
Re: B-series OEM Valve Cover breather barb size/replacement?
Very informative, I will most likely use the fuel line adapter method as 10mm 3/8" is so hard to find.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
